Thanksgiving Wrap-up

NOTE: There are no pictures in this week's blog. I've apparently maxed out my free limit for photos on Google so they won't let me post them in the blog anymore. I need to find a new way to add pictures to the blog. Hopefully I'll be able to resolve this before next week's blog. The good news is I can still upload videos, so there are several of those here for your enjoyment!

I missed writing the blog last week because we were busy having fun with company - my Aunt Linda, Uncle Jack and counsin Jackie came to visit us for Thanksgiving! It was their first trip to CO and they really liked it. We had a great visit.

Kinsey really enjoyed Thanksgiving this year - she ate a little bit of everything at Thanksgiving dinner (sweet potato casserole, cauliflower, green bean casserole, stuffing, turkey and of course mashed potatoes and gravy). She also went shopping all day with me, Aunt Linda and Jackie on Friday AND Saturday and was a real trooper.

Saturday morning we even went for a mini photo session with Santa and Mrs Claus.

Saturday evening Kinsey and Bailey even put on their Gator gear to watch the Gators beat the Seminoles (that's always fun!)

Kinsey is still really enjoying her birthday presents. One of her favorites is the baby doll that Jamie's boss gave her. It's funny because I never thought about getting her a doll, but she really loves it. It came in a little car seat/carrier and she loves to put the baby in it and carry it around.

In fact, we've been working on walking and Kinsey is getting better and better at it. We're trying to get her to walk without needing to hold onto both of our hands. The therapist suggested we hold onto one of her hands, but put a toy in the other hand and we hold onto the toy instead of her hand. The goal is to be able to let go of the toy and get her to walk holding only one hand. So we've been doing that with her doll baby and she's been walking really well with me holding onto the doll too, but tonight I got her to walk for the first time without me holding onto the doll! She's pretty wobbly, but she's doing it! http://youtu.be/wA29DXTV-pE

I've also been working on getting her to walk with her wagon push toy. She still won't do it holding on herself, but she will walk if she holds onto it with one hand and holds my hand with the other. http://youtu.be/A-qtnCwAtY8

Kinsey, as always, has been in a great mood and laughing a lot lately. She likes to give Bailey and Emma treats and thinks it's really funny when they take them from her hand: http://youtu.be/jpkbe2-bAv4 And the other night she was just laughing like crazy at Jamie as he took apart a drying rack - not sure why she thought it was so funny, but she did: http://youtu.be/Xh80kY_6ots

Birthday Fun

Kinsey's birthday was lots of fun and Kinsey was really into it this year! She had a great time at the party, even enjoying a hayride in the snow, and also enjoyed opening her presents - taking tissue paper out of bags and pulling on the wrapping paper. She also enjoyed Gramma visiting, even though Kinsey wasn't feeling well most of the time she was here. Kinsey's been enjoying playing with all her new toys this week. Lots of pictures and videos below. That's it for this week!

out how to jump or bounce on it yet, but she likes it!

Kinsey really likes to watch the Car Wash. It's hard to get a good picture though.

Kinsey is 2!!!!!

Whew, I didn't know if I was going to get this blog written today. I started it this afternoon, but then tonight, right after Gramma arrived, Kinsey started throwing up! It was a rough couple of hours, but she seems to be on the mend now and will hopefully be feeling ok for her big party tomorrow.

Now on to the regularly-scheduled blog post:

Kinsey is 2!!!

It's so hard to believe that another year has gone by and we are lucky enough to be celebrating Kinsey's 2nd Birthday! It's been a crazy year with 2 surgeries, 2.5 months of leg casts, a move across the country, and all new doctors and therapists at our new home. But, as usual, Kinsey handled everything like a champ (I think all of it was harder on me than her) and she's doing so great! (That goes for tonight's puking episode too!)

We've got a great party planned at The Farm at Lee Martinez Park where Kinsey will enjoy playing with the animals - she gets really excited about them! And we've got our family and lots of new and old friends joining us to celebrate. I just wish our family and friends who are far away could be here too, but we know you're all here in spirit!

As we've approached Kinsey's birthday, I can't help but look back at how far we've come in the last two years. I know all parents have the birth of their child engrained in their mind and can probably always remember it like yesterday, even when their kids are fully grown. I will always cherish my memories of her birth and the 12 beautiful hours we had before the doctors crushed our world. And I will always remember the aftermath too, but fortunately, those memories get less painful as time goes by and I relish in everything my amazing, beautiful, adorable, fun, miraculous little girl is doing today that the doctors said would never happen!

In fact, I looked through the last year of the blog to remember all the things Kinsey can do now. I'm sure this isn't a full list, but it's still pretty impressive. In the last year, Kinsey has learned to:
  • Drink from a sippy cup
  • Feed herself with her hands
  • Turn on a faucet
  • Open cabinet doors
  • Walk in a baby walker
  • Play with her tongue
  • Take rings off and put them back on the ring stacker
  • Play with the dogs
  • Close doors on her pop-up toy
  • Suck on her lip
  • Roll over
  • Sit up on her own
  • Turn pages of a book
  • Stand while holding onto something
  • Walk in her Gait Trainer walker
  • Walk while holding your hands
  • Stand up on her own in her rocking horse
  • Turn a light switch on and off
  • Sort toys
  • Pick berries
  • Go down a slide on her own
  • Wear glasses
  • Move around in her ride-on car
  • Stand at a table to play with toys
  • Eat from a food pouch on her own
  • Drink from a straw
Here's another reminder of how far we've come:

She's simply amazing and I am so lucky to be her mommy!

New Skills!

This week Kinsey's been doing a lot of amazing new things and it's been a lot of fun!

This week, I was talking to the speech therapist about working on Kinsey's drooling. She said we need to work on strengthening and awareness of her jaw and asked if Kinsey could drink from a straw. Initially I said no because we tried it several months ago and she couldn't figure it out, but I got the straw cups out that we used before and to my surprise she started drinking from it right away! I was amazed! And it turns out she loves doing that too - I think she's been drinking more since we switched to the straw. And I say switched because I tried to give her the old sippy cup since then and she turned away from it. Stinker!

One night she wouldn't go to sleep so I got her up to see if she wanted some milk. I sat her down on the couch with her cup and she drank the whole thing (5 oz) in about 5 minutes! Normally she drinks 5-10 oz in an entire day! http://youtu.be/rbwvRx925K8

This week we also finally got her walker adjusted to the right position for her to walk well in it turned around the other way. I mentioned last week that we turned it around so she has to work harder to "take it with her" rather than lean on it to walk, but we didn't get it quite right before the end of our therapy session. So this week we worked on it more and when we finally got the right position it was like magic and she took off! Now there's no stopping her. She's all over the house and follows me around and gets into everything! Here she is playing with the shutters on the window in our room after she followed me in there: http://youtu.be/Uh89VgxxS2s

The therapist also suggested we work on her standing on her own more. Jamie got her to stand completely on her own and was able to count to 11 before she lost her balance the other day. So now we're practicing standing with her back up against something (a wall, the couch, our legs) and a table or tall toy in front of her. She also really seems to be enjoying playing with her toys while standing instead of sitting all the time. Here are a couple of videos: http://youtu.be/U3F5txthypE and http://youtu.be/Xe2QjRLZVDw

This week was also Halloween! We went to The Farm, where we will have Kinsey's birthday party, for Treatsylvania and had a great time. The weather this week was great and we were also able to go play outside. Here are some pictures:

Next week is the big day . . . Only 8 days till Kinsey is 2!!!!!
As we approach her birthday, I've been looking back at the last 2 years. Here are some interesting pictures of Kinsey this year and this time last year side-by-side:
